Success on the gridiron establishes more than just a team's legacy it cultivates veritable armies of devoted fans. The National Football League (NFL), comprising 32 dynamic teams, showcases this sense of loyalty and fanfare like no other sports organization in the United States. Each state has its favorite team, often driven by regional proximity but also influenced by historical success and star players' presence.
Key findings from the data include:
- The 'Dallas Cowboys' and the 'New England Patriots' lead the nation with six states apiece. The 'Cowboys' command a southern belt running from Texas through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, and New Mexico, while the 'Patriots' sweep all six New England states.
- The 'Seattle Seahawks' own the Pacific Northwest, favored in five states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska.
- Regional loyalties hold the middle of the country: the 'Kansas City Chiefs' in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska; the 'Minnesota Vikings' in Minnesota and both Dakotas; and the 'Denver Broncos' across Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming.
