In terms of geography and topography, the sizes of European nations vary quite substantially, marking a glorious patchwork on the continent.

Overall, Europe comprises some 44 countries, from sprawling giants like Russia to tiny gems like Malta. Looking at the land area, the map of Europe unfurls a panorama of colossal nations holding vast territories, making them not only crucial in the European context but also on the global stage.

  • Russia, with a sizable landmass of 16.4 million KM², trumps all European countries, accounting for around 40% of the entire continent's area. A significant part of the country, however, also belongs to Asia, reflecting its transcontinental status.

The second biggest country in the Europe is Turkey, another transcontinental country. It spans 769.6K KM² on the European continent, its unique geographical location providing a bridge between Asia and Europe.

Following Turkey, we have Ukraine, the third largest country, and most notably, the largest to be entirely within Europe. Encompassing an area of about 579.3K KM², Ukraine is larger than many of its Western European counterparts.
