Healthcare Around the Globe

When we think about what makes a country "safe" or "good to live in", often one of the first considerations is the quality and accessibility of healthcare. The importance of robust healthcare systems has been thrown into sharp relief as the world grapples with ongoing health crises. Striving for the best healthcare is a worldwide endeavor, and to measure how countries are doing, we turn to the Healthcare Index.

The Healthcare Index is a data-driven metric that combines various factors including healthcare infrastructure, healthcare professionals per capita, quality of medical care, and overall health outcomes. This comprehensive system helps us to identify, compare, and understand the standard of healthcare provided across the world.

Key revelations from the data are as follows:

  • Denmark is leading the world in healthcare according to the Healthcare Index, followed closely by Norway and Switzerland.
  • The United States, while having one of the most advanced healthcare systems in the world, is ranked 18th on the Healthcare Index, showcasing that there's room for improvement in terms of accessibility and overall health outcomes.
  • European countries dominate the list, with 9 out of the top 10 countries being from the European continent. This dominance underscores the fact that these nations invest heavily in healthcare infrastructure and their citizens' well-being.
  • Healthcare quality varies significantly globally, with countries like Afghanistan and Chad, ranked 162nd and 164th respectively on the Healthcare Index, facing significant barriers to providing adequate healthcare services.
  • Some countries with smaller populations and less global influence, like New Zealand, Iceland, and Luxembourg, outperform larger countries due to their focus on high-quality healthcare and substantial per capita investment.
